Paul,

Most of the people I know "in real life" are the same way--they're entering social media very cautiously. Truthfully, the way I entered the social web was a blessing in disguise.

Trust and fear is always the barrier, and at the time I was way more desperate for connection, advice and help than I was afraid of "strangers on the internet." And it ended up being really a major turning point in my life in many, many ways.

Thanks for the comment!

Several of my friends err on the privacy end of the spectrum.

I look at the social media thing as a way to connect with people. The more open I am, the greater the chance of true connection.
